Family stories from her descendants indicate she and Rev. John and family, were in South Carolina at her family home during the 1886 earthquake. She was not in the 1900 census with Rev. John in Texas where he indicated he was a widower. There is a photo of their oldest son, Reese, indicating the photo was made in Columbia, South Carolina. Reese would have been 20-21 years old at the time it was made. Emma could have been buried in the Reese family cemetery in South Carolina, or anywhere in between their travel to and from South Carolina, but I do not believe she returned to Texas with her family. The 2 studio photos -the photo of Emma and the one of her son, Reese -were they both made in Columbia, SC? I have not found any information on her 1st husband, John R Howell, also born in Columbia, South Carolina. Why and how did they get to Louisiana -where and when did John Howell die? Was he in the war? He died before Emma married John Barron in May, 1864 in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana. No information on him after the 1860 census in South Carolina. I thought after more than my 40 years of research that Emma needed to be honored with a memorial.
