Jana Kay Van Dyk was born February 10, 1951, to Wilbur "Bud" and Helene (Gosselink) Ver Meer in Pella, Iowa.

On August 11, 1970, she was united in marriage to Gerald "Obie" Van Dyk in Colton, South Dakota. To this union they were blessed with two children: Bradley and Sarah.

Jan graduated in 1970 from Nettleton College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She worked for Pella Regional Health Center for 14 years. Jan had her own business, Painters Karousel, where she taught painting classes for many years. She attended numerous national conventions where she taught classes. Jan received the C.D.A. Certified Decorative Artist award which she was very proud of and she took great pride in her teaching which was one of her greatest joys. Jan's other biggest source of pride was her grandkids. She always wanted to have a lot of grandkids and wanted to play an active role in their lives. She loved attending movies together, playing games, and especially loved our family vacations to Disney World!! She enjoyed sharing her skills with the kids, whether it be painting, crocheting, cooking/baking etc.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Obie, and their daughter Sarah Van Dyk of Pella; grandchildren: Courtney, Brayden and Kiaya. Jan is also survived by her twin sister Jeannie Vermeer of Jenison, Michigan, her brothers and sisters-in-law: Dorothy Boom, of Marion, North Dakota, Jelene Van Dyk of Portage, Michigan, Audrey Reurink of Colton, South Dakota, Elaine Van Liere of Colton, South Dakota, and Jack Vandermay of Portage, Michigan.
