Eddie D Farr Succumbs

Eddie Dean Farr, a lifelong resident of Chickasaw county, who was well known in Houston, died Feb. 3, 1972, at 7 am in the Extended Care Unit of Pontotoc Hospital. He was 79. Funeral services were held at the Houston Funeral Home Chapel at 10 am, Friday, Feb. 4, with the Rev. Howard Hathorn officiating. Interment was in Concord Cemetery.

Mr. Farr was born March 9, 1893 in Chickasaw county. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of Concord Methodist Church.

Survivors include a half-brother, Lloyd Farr of Dallas, Texas.

Eddie Dean Farr, Former Chaplain of VFW, Dies

Edward Dean Farr, oldest son of the late Richard S and Frances Atkinson Farr of South Houston and a former resident of Houston died Thursday morning at 7, Feb. 3, after an extended illness. He was born October 23, 1892. He attended school in Houston and attended services regularly at the Presbyterian church.

Later he was called into Army service, serving the duration and upon discharged returned to his home where his father was engaged in farming the land he inherited from his father and which was inherited by this oldest son. So it was during these years he was married to Miss Sydney Davis, but after his father's death, he sold the farm and they moved into Houston where she passed away April 1958.

He served several years as Chaplain of the Local VFW Post. He continued living here until in 1963, when he married Mrs. Lula Martin of Amory where they resided and were faithful members of East Amory Baptist Church.

She died of a sudden heart attack while assisting in his care at the local hospital where he was hospitalized for sometime after sustaining a fall at their home. His condition became worse so he was transferred to the Veteran's Hospital in Memphis where he remained for several months until being brought to Pontotoc Extended Care Unit where he was residing at the time of his death.

Survivors are a half brother, Lloyd Farr, Dallas, Tex.; a niece, Mrs. Joe Roberts, Redwood City, Calif.; two nephews, Joseph Farr of Fontana, Calif.; and James H Farr of Sunnyvale, Calif. and a number of cousins in Houston.

Services were conducted Friday, Feb. 4, at 10:00 in the Chapel of Houston Funeral Home by the Rev. Hathorn.

Pallbearers were: Robert Atkinson, Leland Norman, Joe Bullock, Edward Norman, and Harrison Upshaw.

Burial was in Concord Cemetery with Houston Funeral Home in charge.
