David started his work career early, at the age of 9 by working on a farm. He worked at Teamsters 520 for over 30 years as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic. He was the past Mayor of Sandoval and long time Village Trustee. He was a member of the Lions Club, a past president and secretary for numerous times for over 40 years he participated. David was also a member of the Volkswagen Club, and was known as the Volkswagen Man of Sandoval. He was awarded the Platinum Bug Award by the American Motorworks in Effingham. David was a member of the Odin First Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Alice, his ex-wife Josephine, brother Scott Hanks, sister Roberta Carpenter, grandchild Michael White, and great grandchild Luke Hanks.
