♥ ♥ ~ My Grand Aunt Ada ~ ♥ ♥

Ada was the older of two children born to Jacob Kline and Mary Elizabeth Dobson. She was graduated from the Wilkes-Barre City High School, Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania in 1912, and from the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital School of Nursing in 1915. She worked at the hospital until she married, then worked as a private duty nurse.

Ada met Charles William Rohme, Jr., when she was visiting a friend, Mae Bachman. The couple courted for several years, because her mother didn't want her to marry. They were married on December 15, 1923, in the Mountaintop Presbyterian Parsonage, Mountaintop, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, and Rev. Andrew Scott performed the ceremony. Though they had no children, they helped to raise their nephew, Glen Kline, after Ada's brother George died.

Ada was known for her beautiful rose garden - her back yard was filled with a variety of rose bushes. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Wilkes-Barre, and would take roses from her garden when she visited sick members of her church. She loved to crochet, and many family members have the tablecloths and other items she made for them.

Aunt Ada was devoted to my Dad, and moved in with our family after Uncle Charlie died. She wanted us to move into her home, and when Dad wouldn't, she had the house torn down. She said her grandfather built that house, and nobody other than a Kline would ever live in it!

When I was a child, she and I would go up in the attic where her furniture, china, pictures, and other family memorabilia were stored, and she would tell me stories about the family members who owned them. This started my interest in genealogy - and she gave me most of those items before she died.
