Alexis Britney Rodriguez, age 27, was the passenger in a 2022 Kia Stinger, being driven by Luis Fernando Cevallos when he slammed into a tractor trailer at a criminally high rate of speed, on Tonnelle Avenue at the Paterson Plank Road overpass around 2:15 a.m., Wednesday morning. The high speed (confirmed by area surveillance video), appeared to be the only factor, responders said. The top of the Kia was sheared off and the sedan went another 30 to 40 feet before it finally came to a stop against a wall of the overpass (shown in the video). Cevallos had just been stopped by North Bergen Police about 15 minutes prior, for reckless driving, speeding (in excess of 100 mph), running a red light, and violation of a provisional license (driving after hours). During the traffic stop, Alexis stated to the officer: "We're on a first date, me and him" to which the officer replied: "Almost getting killed, is not the way to have a first date"! Cevallos was cited for three of the four offenses and ordered to go home. Approximately 20 minutes later, they would be pronounced dead at the scene of a ghastly crash. Rodriguez was an Edgewater native and Bergenfield resident, Rodriguez was a graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University, and Alexis earned a Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management. Ms. Rodriguez was known for her overly loving soul, enthusiasm, uniqueness, and ability to just enjoy the moment; if there was one thing she loved to do, it was to laugh. Active throughout her entire life, she enjoyed hiking, working out, and most of all, traveling. She was a stunning star; the light of every room she entered, Alexis was always on the cutting edge of the beauty and fashion industry. Her most prized possessions though were her family, friends, and her precious cat Onyx. Beloved daughter of Alfonso Rodriguez and Barbara (née Incle) Rhode. Loving sister of Gabriella and A.J. Rodriguez, Emily and Amanda Rhode, and Samantha Rodriguez. Cherished granddaughter of Santiago and Adelaide Incle and Alejandro and Porfiria Rodriguez. Dear niece of Alex Rodriguez and Santiago Incle, Jr. and David Incle. (bio by: Jay Lance)
