Dorothy Grace Mullin, was born in Macomb and was the oldest child of Daniel and Ada Washburn Mullin. She attended local rural schools and graduated from Gouverneur High school in 1938. Under a program of the US Cadet Nurse Corp, administed by the US Public Health Service to increase the number of nurses to serve in WWII, she attended Syracuse University and graduated as a Registered Nurse. She did private nursing duty in E.J. Noble Hospital in Gouverneur and also did hospital nursing in Cleveland, OH. In the early 1950's she served as Head Public Health Nurse for the State of Alaska.
