He served with the 29th Georgia Volunteer Infantry Regiment CO I. Corp Wheeler saw much action suffered several injuries and was a POW in at least 2 Yankee Prisons.

Hosp, Howard's Grove, Richmond (Debility); 03/16/1865 30-day furlough; 03/24/1865 extension of furlough for 30 more days by CSA examining board surgeons (chronic diarrhea & GS to shoulder unhealed)
