Richard was born November 15, 1934, in Muncie, the son of Robert O. and Jeannette (Lockwood) Bonnell. He graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1953, then enlisted in the United States Navy.
Mr. Bonnell worked for thirty-four years as a Postal Carrier for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1989. He was a longtime member of the Letter Carriers Union Branch 98 (NALC).
Richard was a great basketball player, and an avid golfer who played for many years with his brother David and his uncle. He was a member of Garden at Gethsemane Global Methodist Church where he was active in Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class.
Mr. Bonnell is survived by his brother, David Bonnell; nephews, Dr. Max (Barbara) Talbott, Colonel John (Michele) Williams, Robert (Susan) Williams, Robert Bonnell; niece, Carolyn Neff; great niece, Dr. Laura Talbott Clark; great nephews, Robert Talbott, and Dr. Matthew Williams; two sisters-in-law, Alice Jean Talbott and Deanie Williams; three great, great nephews; and one great, great niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife Martha Bonnell in 2020.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, with Pastor Kate Muhlbaier officiating. Burial with Military Rites conducted by the Delaware County Veteran's Honor Guard will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
