Octave C. Etie, 69, passed away in the Rugeley-Blasingame Hospital in Wharton Friday night, December 31, 1948 at 8:30 p.m. He was born on December 20, 1879 in Glencoe, Louisiana. He moved to Texas in 1915 and was employed by the Freeport Sulphur Company at Freeport until 1922. He was then employed by the Texas Gulf Sulphur Company at Old Gulf and later at Newgulf, until his retirement in 1937.
Mr. Etis is survived by his mother, Mrs. Carlos Etie of Bay City; three daughters, Mrs. E.A. Sterling of Boling, Mrs. L.R. Burton of Rosenberg, and Mrs. J.S. Doane of Freeport; one son, Harry Albert Etie of the United States Merchant Marine; two brothers, O'Niell Etie of Bay City and Paul Etie of Beaumont; three sisters, Mrs. Clara Panos of Houston, Mrs. Lester Russell of Houston, and Mrs. John Wesley of Houston; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held from the Foerster Funeral Home at 3:15 p.m. Sunday afternoon, January 2, and from the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Rosenberg at 3:30 p.m., with Rev. Jerome Tydlacka officiating. Burial was in the Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were his grandsons, James Davis, Ross Sterling, Dewey Sterling, Edmund Alfred Sterling, Edward Charles Sterling, and Leslie Ray Burton, Jr.
Funeral services were under the direction of the Foerster Funeral Home.
