She was born March 19, 1881 at Sulphur City, Arkansas, the daughter of John B. and Mary Frances (Hare) Brooks.

She and William Finley VanHorn were married June 18, 1912 in Benton County, Arkansas.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Harold Brooks Van Horn and James Clinton Van Horn; a brother, John Burtis Brooks; and two sisters, Sabine Isabelle Catron and Shirley Mae Jones.

Burial is in the Mount Salum Cemetery at Sulphur City.
