Peter was born in Virginia to Jacob and Hanna Little. The family soon moved to North Carolina. In 1793, he married Nancy Rector in Surrey County, North Carolina and they started what would become a large family together. Around 1812, they moved to Wayne County, Indiana. Wayne County, named for General Anthony Wayne, had just been formed in 1811. The first white settlers in this area were Quakers from North Carolina in 1806. Peter and Nancy followed this migration and would spend the rest of their lives in Indiana. Nancy died in 1830 and Peter remarried in 1831 to Nancy (Kinnick) Rector who had previously been married to Peter Rector who had died in 1827 in Rowan County, North Carolina.
