John S. Eckhart, 86 years old, died this morning at 5 o'clock at his home in Eckhart following a long illness. He had been a miner for a number of years. His grandfather, John Eckhart, who came from Germany, was the founder of the village of Eckhart, which is named for him. At one time he owned the greater part of the village, which has 1,000 or more population. He is survived by one son, Thomas Eckhart, of Eckhart, and two daughters, Mrs. Robert Stanton (sic) of Frostburg and Mrs. Frank Kelly, Eckhart. Mrs. Joseph Garrett of Frostburg is a sister. Burial will be in Eckhart cemetery.
