Abingdon - Lyle P. Allen, 78, 704 N. Front St., died at 7:09 p.m. Monday (April 7, 2008) at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
He was born Jan. 22, 1930, in Floyd Township, Warren County, to Ray and Junie Courson Allen.
He is survived by his children, Sharon (and Danny) Boyer of Rapatee, Jerry Allen of London Mills, Terry (and Virginia) Allen of Abingdon, Julie Allen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Joy (and Bruce) Hillery of Gainesville, Fla., and Chris (and Jennifer) Allen of Winterset, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Harley (and Violet) Allen of rural Roseville; and two sisters, Ruth Purchase of rural Abingdon and Doris Dopp of rural Galesburg.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Leo, Marion, Russell and Troy; and two sisters, Ila and Ada. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict. He was a past member of Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post 381.
He had worked at Briggs Manufacturing in Abingdon and later at Gale Products in Galesburg. He also owned and operated Lyle Allen Feed Supply for several years. He was a farmer and enjoyed working with livestock.
His hobbies included fishing and hunting and spending time in the outdoors.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 11, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery, with military rites by Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post 381. Memorials may be made to American Legion Post 381 or a charity of the donor's choice.
