Major League Baseball Player. A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was a pitcher for fourteen seasons (1939 to 1942, 1945 to 1953, 1956) with the Washington Senators, Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers. He made his big league debut on May 8, 1939, less than two months shy of his 19th birthday. His notable career highlights include two-time selection to the American League All Star Team (1947 and 1948). During World War II, he served in the United States Navy. In 399 career games, Masterson won 78 and lost 100 with a 4.15 lifetime ERA.
