He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. A Southern Baptist Minister for over sixty years, Preacher Ledbetter pastored churches in Madison, Marshall, and Morgan Counties including Northside (Parkview) in Decatur, Victory in Guntersville, Bethlehem, Liberty and West Point in Lacey's Spring. Shoal Creek and Mountain View were also churches pastored. He held revivals in Louisiana and California. He frequently performed weddings and funerals for as many as three generations of North Alabamians. A bi-vocational pastor, Brother Ledbetter served at Marshall Space Flight Center for over a thirty year period and received many awards and recognition during that time. He was recognized by Parkview and Liberty Churches for his contributions. Also, Mr. Ledbetter was awarded a Cross of Military Service by the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Brother Ledbetter is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth Jordan Ledbetter; his daughter, Peggy Jean Ledbetter of Guntersville; his son, Jerry Nelson Ledbetter (Shirley) of Lacey's Spring; two grandsons, Jonathan Ledbetter of Atlanta and Brockton Bell (Amanda) of Lacey's Spring; granddaughter, Pamela Graves (Jay) of Lacey's Spring; great-grandchildren include: Lawren Elizabeth, Mary Catherine, John Jay, Hannah Rose and Thomas Smith Graves, Natalie Elizabeth Bell, all of Lacey's Spring. Survivors include a brother, Dr. Joe Overton Ledbetter (Ann) of Austin, Texas.
Pallbearers include nephews Carey W. Whitaker of Guntersville, Robert and Rob Brown of Huntsville, David and Jordan Ledbetter of Virginia and Ernest Hammett of Georgia.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Hebron Baptist Church, conducted by Brother David Chandler of Baker's Chapel Baptist Church. Dr. Spurgeon Hendrick, a
nephew, will conclude the services at the adjoining Walker Cemetery.
