James and Laura moved to St. Joseph, Missouri in 1874, along with his parents. At some point of his life he worked on a railroad and had frost bite on his legs. He was disabled from it and from that point worked as a night watchman for the trolley company in St. Joe. His son Perry Otis watched over his parents although his father continued to work at what ever job he could get.
The only children not listed below was Elizabeth Ann who ran away from home at a very early age, and Bertha Malvina who I could not find either. Bertha married a man named Paul. Her birthdate was listed as 13 Aug 1887 in the family Bible.
