Alburtos Horne Jr. more affectionally known as Al, was surrounded by family when he ran his last race to victory and went peacefully home to be with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 1, 2023. Al Horne was born December 11, 1958, to Ethel Clarke Horne and Alburtos Horne Sr. in Weldon, NC.

He attended Phoebus High School in Hampton, VA, where he excelled at football and track. Heavily sought after in both sports, he was offered a full scholarship to attend the University of Tennessee in Knoxville as a member of their track team. From 1978 -1980 he was a member of the UTK Division 1 All-American Track and Field Team. While attending UTK Al met the love of his life Daphany L. Storey whom he shared 45 loving years with.

After leaving UTK, he joined the US Army in 1983. After 21 years of loyal service, he retired at the rank of Sergeant First Class from the Pentagon. During his army career Al received numerous awards including the Joint Chiefs of Staff Identification Badge. While serving his country he still continued to show that he was a force to be reckoned with, as a member of the All-Army Track and Powerlifting teams.

In the summer of 1981, he became a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated through the Kappa Chi Chapter.

After retiring from the Army, he furthered his career working for the federal government. During this time Al also found his passion for cars and landscaping.
