Ivan E. Carson, Jr., 83 of the Dawnville community passed away on Thursday, August 17th at The Dalton Square Assisted Living Retirement Community with his loving wife of 62 years by his side.

Ivan, the youngest of six children, was born to the late Clara Agnes Neal and the late Ivan E. Carson, Sr. Ivan, who was named after his father, grew up on a large working farm in Dawnville along with his brothers Joseph, Williard and Harold and his sisters Janelle and Kathryn.

Ivan attended the University of Georgia until his father passed away and he came back home to take care of his mother during this difficult time. Once he returned to Dawnville, he met the love of his life, Betty Jean Prater. The chance encounter occurred when his sister, Janelle who was a teacher at Valley Point High School, brought her little brother to the dance that she chaperoned. Ivan and Betty married on May 5th and have been devoted to each other ever since.

Ivan was a well-known entrepreneur in Dalton's carpet industry and had a passion for real estate investments. He was a huge Georgia Bulldog fan and has had football season tickets since 1980. All three of his children attended college at the University of Georgia. Ivan also had a passion for cars in general and participated in the local antique car club. In addition, Ivan enjoyed spending time with his "breakfast buddies" at Powells restaurant in downtown Dalton.

Most importantly, Ivan would want to be remembered for his love of God and his family. He raised his family at Dawnville United Methodist Church where he served faithfully in many roles including teaching Sunday School. His church family always held a special place in his heart.

What he enjoyed most was times spent with his family on trips to the beach, ruby mining, Disney World and UGA football games.

He is survived by his loving wife Betty, son Neal Carson and his wife Chrissy Carson of Dalton, son Dr. Stephen Carson and his wife Ginny of Dalton and his daughter Beth (Carson) Horacek and her husband Don Paul Horacek of Statham. He is also survived by grandchildren, Hunter Carson and his wife Anna, Ashley Carson, David Carson, Logan Horacek, Katie Horacek, John Carson and Landon Horacek and great granddaughter Harper Carson.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Dalton Square, Amedisys Hospice Care and two special care givers Angela and Audrey for their kind and loving support.

A private service will be held on Tuesday, August 22nd at Love Funeral Home.
