Mrs. Stokes was born December 11, 1924 in Ingalls to Charlie and Minnie Robinson Donahoo. She attended grade school in Ingalls She attended Ripley High School, where she was a cheerleader, and graduated from Stillwater High School in 1943. She married Lester Stokes on February 12, 1943 in Salinas, Calif. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1993. Mrs. Stokes worked with the Glenn Douglas grocery stores, first at the Cooksey Store at 9th and Main, then at other locations. She retired from Glenn's Best Yet in 1989. She was a sales cashier. She was a member of the Glencoe VFW Auxiliary Post #1843. She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.
Survivors include her husband, one son and daughter in law, Lester, Jr. and Doris Stokes, of Glencoe; five grandchildren, Jim and Jeff Stokes, both of Texas, John Adair of Stillwater and Toi Stokes and Laticia Ross, both of Glencoe; and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Stokes is also survived by one brother, Mike Donohoo, Lancaster, Texas; and two sisters: Maxine Crouse of Oklahoma City, and Earlene Wells of Sapulpa. Pallbearers will be Ben Douglas, Bob Thomas, Ralph Spiva, Wilbur Mitchell, Dan Burr, and Jake Sharpton.
