Ruby Jo Gay was born on August 18,1938 to J. T. Blake and Lena Beatrice Mathis Blake in Shreveport, Louisiana and passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023 in Ringgold, Louisiana. She was a member of the Ringgold church of Christ and she retired in 1998 from the Red River Parish School System after years of service as a cafeteria worker. She enjoyed playing darts, putting together puzzles and watching television. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Holden of Bossier City, Donna Hadwin and husband, Aubrey of Ringgold, LaWana Chandler of Haughton, and son Rodney Smith and wife, Julie of Plain Dealing and by her grandchildren Shawn Williams, Samantha Stanley, Reese Daniel, Dodie Kincaid, Emmitt "Bud" Sangster, Cathy Franks, Sabrina Chandler, Blake Smith, Erin Smith and Audrey Smith. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband William D. Smith and sons Jackie Lamon Smith and Shannon "Butch" Elmer Smith; grandchildren Aimie Daniel and Allen Salter; second husband Charles Edwin Gay; and siblings, Addis Blake, Louise Day, Hollis Blake, Vance Blake, Ruth Blake, Una Faye Blake, Clarence Blake, Wilbur Gene Blake, Willie Reed Blake, and Marjorie Guin.
