Katharine (Kurtz) Stanchick, 91 Berwick, and previously from West Chester, died Wednesday, Aug 10, 2011 at the Berwick Retirement Village II. Born Dec 18, 1919 in Berwick, she was the daughter of the late Claude Kurtz and Julia (Wolfe) Kurtz. She was also the widow of Leonard Stanchick, who died Feb 8, 1994.
She was a 1937 graduate of Berwick High School. She also graduated from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing Philadelphia Class of 1940 and later earned a BS in Education from West Chester University in 1972.
Katharine was a Registered Nurse for 22 years at the Embreeville State Hospital. She had also worked as an RN at several other hospitals in the area.
She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church, Berwick.
She is survived by a nephew, Doug Kurtz of Hayward, CA and many close friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Claude J. Kurtz.
There will be held graveside at the Pine Grove Cemetery, Walnut Street, Berwick.
