Marcellus was born in St Mary's County Maryland in 1842. He was 1 of only a handful of men from that county to join the Union Army. He was transported to Baltimore in January 1862. From there he enlisted as a private in Company F, 6th Michigan Infantry. His unit ended up at Ship Island Mississippi. His stay was short. He died of disease on April 20 1862. He is buried in Sec. 29 Grave 323.
