It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, ROMAN MANUEL "TATA" ORTEGA, 73, Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 9, 1934 in El Porvenir D.B, Chihuahua, Mexico to Roman and Hilaria Rivas Ortega. Mr. Ortega retired from Stahmann Farms and was a member of the Catholic Church.
Survivors include his loving wife, Santos Gomez Ortega of the family home; six children, Lorenza Dorado and husband, Abel of Las Cruces, Alfredo Ortega and wife, Norma of Queen Creek, Arizona, Jesus Ortega and wife, Lorraine, Carlos Ortega and wife, Shelly, all also of Las Cruces, Javier Ortega and wife, Hermila of Lochbuie, Colorado and Lorena Escobar and husband, Antonio of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Other survivors include a sister, Agustina Calderon of Tucson, Arizona; brothers, Cruz Ortega of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Socorro Ortega of Las Cruces, as well as eighteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Facundo, Jesus Maria, Felix and Antonio; three sisters, Rita, Maria and Pilar; his infant, son, Carlos, and three infant great grandchildren, Damian Ortega, Benjamin Alfredo Michaels and Forever Olivia Scarborough.
Visitation for Mr. Ortega will begin at 6 PM Tuesday, April 1, 2008 in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road, where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled to begin at 7 PM. Family and friends will join together to celebrate the Funeral Liturgy at 3 PM, Wednesday, April 2, 2008 in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, 1240 S. Espina. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in Masonic Cemetery, 760 S. Compress Road where he will be laid to rest.
Serving as casket bearers will be his loving grandsons, Abel Dorado, Jr., Alfredo Ortega, Jr., Damon Turner, Zach Ortega, Raymond Dorado and Joshua Ortega. Honorary bearers will be his remaining grandchildren, Sylvia, Olivia, Elvia, Pearl, Bea, Lucinda, Serena, Anthony "Mi Tony", Valerie, Ashley, Samantha, Elizabeth and Christopher.
