Excerpts from Montrose Daily Press: Montrose Pioneer Found Dead in Bed at Telluride Mine. New was received here the first of the week of the death of Matt Dolphin, a pioneer of this city, who was found dead in his bed at the Alta mine near Telluride. He and his wife were well-known in Delta and Montrose. She died several years prior. Their daughter Mrs L E Grauel lived in Montrose. There were several other children. The Montrose paper quotes the Telluride newspaper citing that cause of death was thought to be heart failure having died in his sleep.
