She was born October 24, 1932, to the late Robert B. Mitchell, Sr. and Maggie M. Wynn in Petersburg, VA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Canady, Sr.
Jean Canady graduated from Peabody High School in Petersburg, VA. Shortly after graduation, she got married and traveled to France and other military locations with her husband. She enjoyed 57 years of marriage prior to her husband's death on March 8, 2009.
Jean had a successful career at Roses Department Store where she was a manager, retiring in 1992. She was a member of First Baptist Church and lived a faith-filled life, always sharing her experiences with family and friends. Her primary focus in life was her family. She had a heart for nurturing her children and grandchildren through the various phases of life. Her proudest moments were seeing each of her grandchildren walk across the stage during their high school graduations and becoming productive citizens. She was able to see all but one graduate from college. She valued family reunions, vacations and holiday get togethers.
