Gilbert Turner Fowler was the youngest son of James Brewster Fowler and Hannah Painter. He came to California with his family in 1870 and they settled in Fresno, California.

He married Ida May Bickmore and they had five children:
Lester Leland Fowler, (1903 - 1989); Ida May Fowler, (1905 - 1999) married Earl Mc Auley, Viola Cordelia Fowler,(1908 - 1974) married Wilfred Rist, Elsie Irene Fowler, (1910 - 1997) married Albert Norris and Laura Valeta Fowler, b. 1912, d. 1980.

Gilbert worked as a County Surveyor in Fresno until he moved his family and twenty horses to Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, California where he bought a ranch and became a Dairyman.
