Mrs. Georgia Ann West Hamilton of Black Mountain, died Saturday, April 12, 2003 at Mountain View Wilderness Center in Ridgecrest. Mrs. Hamilton was 96 years old.

Mrs. Hamilton was born in 1906 in Thomson, Georgia to the late Willie and Sarah West Thomson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Roy Hamilton, in 1956 and by her son, Roy Lee Hamilton of Black Mountain, in 1985.

Mrs. Hamilton was a long-time member of Nazareth First Baptist Church of Asheville and a major donor and fundraiser in rebuilding Nazareth when the original church was completely destroyed by fire in the 1960's. She devoted a great deal of time serving her community as President of the Oak Grove Cemetery Association. Through her leadership and many years of service, this land was transformed into a beautiful memorial park for the deceased residents of the entire Swannanoa Valley. Mrs. Hamilton is survived by three sons, John Ben Hamilton, William Marvin Hamilton and Oran Hamilton of Black Mountain; two daughters in-law, Ann Hamilton and Erlene Hamilton; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, including George Roland Hamilton, whom she raised as a son, and many friends.

Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery on Craigmont Road, Black Mountain.
