Juanita Ermagene (Storm) Harding, age 94, of Mattoon passed from this earth to eternal life on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center surrounded by her family. Juanita was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. A loving daughter and sister, and a beloved friend to many.

Funeral services honoring her life will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at Schilling Funeral Home with Pastor Steven Gray officiating. Burial will follow at Upper Ash Grove Cemetery near Windsor. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Juanita, the fourth of six children of Mark Oleph and Etta Alma Minnie (Noffke) Storm, was born on May 21, 1929 at the family farm in rural Stewardson. She was born in a two-story wood framed home that was a Sears and Roebuck model. The house came to Trowbridge by mail and was hauled to the homestead by way of horse and buggy. Juanita received her education at Lone Elm and graduated from Strasburg High School in 1947. She was reared in the Upper Ash Grove church.

Juanita was blessed to be the mother of six children, Sheila, Sharon, Steven, Stanley, Sandra and Susan. She worked hard on the family farm and loved her garden and her flowers. When her children were older, she worked at various restaurants before beginning a 25-year career at General Electric in Mattoon. After her retirement, she worked for Drake Homes.

Juanita was an active member of the General Baptist Church in Mattoon for many years. She enjoyed playing cards with friends and daily trips with her caregiving daughter Susan, especially to Starbucks and thrift stores. Weekend outings with her "peanut gallery" that included Juanita, Susan, Deb and Mike were particularly enjoyable the last year of her life. Juanita had a very green thumb and grew beautiful flowers and delicious vegetables. When the weather permitted, she was working in her yard!

Juanita loved her family dearly and cherished her time with all of them. Her sweet and caring personality, sense of humor and quick wit made her a joy to be with. She cherished her years with her beloved dog, Ginger.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Harry Storm, Helen Bridges, Dallas Storm and Ruth Lading; brothers-in-law, Vern Bridges, Pete Lading and Paul Montgomery.

Left to reflect on a life well lived with integrity and love are her children, Sheila (Terry) Monroe of Thomson, GA, Sharon Harding of Schaumburg, IL, Steven (Cindy) Harding of North Richland, TX, Stanley (Gretchen) Harding of Mattoon, IL, Sandra (Alan) Keene of Peoria, AZ and Susan Harding (Deb Briseno) of Mattoon, IL. Other survivors include her grandchildren, Michael (Nadine) Baker, Andrew (Christine) Baker, Jennifer (Jim) Koster, David Harding (Katie Leicht), Christan (Joe) Amaro, Melissa (Travis) Saunders, Alanna Keene and Joshua (Ashley) Harding; great-grandchildren, Aidan (Tesnim), Caiden, MacKenzie, Sophie, William, Kate, Lily, Jaxton, Landen, Carman, Natalie and Jackson; sister, Marilyn Montgomery of Stewardson, IL and sister-in-law, Melba Storm of Neoga, IL.

Juanita was a strong woman of faith, and a joy to her family. She was always humble, generous, kind and compassionate. Juanita will be missed dearly and remembered always.

Memorial donations in her honor may be given to the St. Mary House, 320 North 21st Street, Mattoon, Illinois 61938 or a charity of the donor's choice.
