Marcus V. Weigel, 80, died Wednesday, Aug. 3 at the Canterbury Retirement Center. He was born July 4, 1903 at Emmeram, the son of Valentine and Elizabeth (Pfeifer) Weigel.

He was a retired meat cutter and a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.

He married Sophia Nowak on Jan. 29, 1923 at Gorham; she died Oct. 11, 1978.

Survivors include eight sons, Don and Lee, both of Salina, Ken and Duane, both of Hays, Mark R., Aurora, Colo., Darrell, Hutchinson, Bob, Winfield, and Dennis, Beatrice, Neb.; six daughters, Mrs. Peter (Dolores) Meis and Mrs. Fred (Charlotte) Jacobs, both of Hays, Mrs. Delaine (Donna) Meyers, Great Bend, Mrs. Jim (Carrie) Brungardt, Wichita, Mrs. Joe (Cheryl) Engel, Phillipsburg, and Jo Ann, Ellis; two brothers, Herb, Hays, and Elmer, Portland, Ore.; three sisters, Mrs. Joe (Esther) Meier, Mrs. Albina Koerner and Mrs. Georgine Schulte, all of Hays, Mrs. Helen Martes, Beaverton, Ore., and Mrs. Albertine Ratten, Portland, Ore.; 30 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Friday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church; burial was in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
