Anderson "Harry" Henson Collier

Funeral services for Anderson Henson Collier, 71, of Los Angeles, Calif., were held Wednesday at Utter-McKinley's Southwest Mortuary in Los Angeles and interment was private.

A retired railroader, Mr. Collier died from injuries he received when struck down by a hit and run driver, the accident occurring in Los Angeles Thursday, Jan. 13.

Mr. Collier was born near Tipton, July 26, 1872, a son of the late Daniel and Mary E. Collier.

May 7, 1894 [sic: 1895] he was married to Miss Ida Eumont, who survives, together with a daughter, Mrs. Betty Hardt; two grandsons, and a brother, Arch Collier of Tipton.

Preceding him in death were his parents and five sisters.

Mr. Collier was a member of the Christian Church.

Struck by a car while crossing Broadway at 110th St., Harry Collier, 72, of 421 W. 111th St., received injuries which caused his death a short time later in George Street Receiving Hospital.

His full name was Anderson Henson Collier. He was usually known by the name of Harry. That was the name on his death certificate, informed by his wife Ida, who was Ida Eumont in their marriage certificate May 7, 1895, in Moniteau County, Missouri. The wedding was held at the home of the bride's father.

Harry and Ida had a daughter, Betty Lee Collier [Hardt], born January 7, 1898, in Missouri. Betty married Francis Thomas Hardt in 1934 in California. It was her second marriage. Betty died on March 27, 1981 in San Diego, California. With her first husband, Edward Moses Wood, she had two sons, Edward Lawrence Wood born February 11, 1923, in Marysville, Kansas, and a twin named Harold Collier Wood. She had a daughter, Marian Lee Hardt. Betty's mother, Ida J. Collier, was living with the family in 1950 in Antelope, Los Angeles County, California.
