Singer. France Gall gained fame as as an original French yé-yé singer, which was a style of pop music that emerged in Western-Southern Europe in the early 1960s. Born Isabelle Geneviève Marie Anne Gall into a musical family, her father, Robert Gall, a lyricist, wrote songs for Édith Piaf and Charles Aznavour. Her mother, Cécile Berthier was a singer, and her grandfather, Paul Berthier, was the co-founder of Les Petits Chanteurs à la Croix de Bois. In 1965 she had hits with the song "Sacré Charlemagne" and won Eurovision with "Poupée de cire, poupée de son." Performed in French and German from the 1960s through the 1990s. Her long career ended with her retirement in 1997. She was married to singer-songwriter Michel Berger until his sudden death in 1992. The couple had two children. Her daughter Pauline was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis and died in 1997.
