Loreta Collins Hemphill, 81, died Monday, March 17, 2008 at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. The Tattnall County native had lived in Metter since 1960 moving from Savannah. She retired from the Candler County Board of Education. Loreta was a member of Metter First Baptist Church, the Esther Sunday School Class, and a former member of the choir. She was president of the American Legion Women's Auxillary and was loved by everyone. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elton Hemphill.
 She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Eric and Shelly Hemphill of Reidsville, Everett and Donna Hemphill of Byron and Brett Hemphill of Atlanta; a brother, Ronnie Collins of Cobbtown; four sisters, Yvonne Fulford of Guyton, Faye Reese of Augusta, Ramona Lynn of Savannah and Virginia Holland of Jacksonville, FL; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.


 Funeral services were Thursday, March 20 at Metter First Baptist Church with burial in the Lake Cemetery. Rev. Fred Pifer officiated.

 Pallbearers were Chris Lomakis, Whitney Hemphill, Wesley Wright, Frank Jackson, Ray Tootle and Jimmy Wilcox. Honorary Pallbearers were Esther Sunday School Class.

 Remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society, POB 66, Pulaski, GA, 30451.
