1st Lieutenant Thomas Carl Widerquist was one of six men killed when C-130E serial 62-1797 was shot down on 03 May 1972 during the siege of An Loc City.

The tactical situation precluded recovery of the aircrew's remains at the time, but all six remains were recovered on 17 Aug 1972. Positive identification took much longer; 1stLt Widerquist's remains were not positively identified until 12 Jun 1974.

In the meantime his parents, Reuben and Aileen Widerquist, had an "In Memory Of" marker placed in Ridgewood Cemetery.

Ridgewood Cemetery has confirmed his recovered remains were interred in Ridgewood in 1974 .... Section 4, Lot 329, Grave 3, where the "In Memory Of" marker earlier had been placed.


Thomas was son of Reuben and Aileen Carlson Widerquist, and the brother of John, Robert and Lynn Widerquist.

1964 graduate of Niles West High School, Skokie, Illinois.

Thomas is honored on the Vietnam Memorial Wall Panel 01W Line 012.
