Bernita M. Schenian, age 86, of Whitelaw, passed away early Tuesday morning, July 11, 2023.

Bernita was born on December 25, 1936 at home in the town of Franklin, daughter of the late Archie and Irene (Welch) Nate. She was a graduate of Reedsville High School, class of 1955. On May 18, 1957 she married Russell L. Schenian at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Maple Grove. He preceded her in death on November 6, 1984. Bernita was employed at St. Mary's Home, Manitowoc, and also at Holy Family Hospital until her retirement. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kellnersville along with the St. Joseph Rosary Society. Bernita was also a member of the Western Fraternal Life Association Lodge #221 of Menchalville and the Whitelaw-Branch Senior Citizens.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law: Steve & Mariann Schenian, Francis Creek, Mike & Patti Schenian, Scott & Crystal Schenian, one daughter and son-in-law: Judy & Jerry Cohen, all of Menchalville; eight grandchildren: Steve Schenian Jr., Abby (Ogden) Holschbach, Joe Schenian and his fiancée, Sarah Hauschultz, Matthew Schenian and his special friend, Holly Kostechka, Tabatha (Jordan) Lindle, Mallary Schenian, Adam (Clara) Cohen, and Amy (Tyler) Skarvan; fourteen great-grandchildren: Madalyn, Karson, Haley, Eliza, Harper, Hannah, Rhett, Mara, Maggie Bernita, Malachi, Hazel, Lewis, Eli, Tenley, and Baby Skarvan arriving in August; two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law: Terry (Mary) Schenian, Dotsie Nate, Fred Kerscher; four very special people: Cheryl, Sherry, Lois and Angie, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. Bernita was preceded in death by one grandson: Ryan Schenian on July 15, 2002; one sister and brother-in-law: Rose Jean (Barney) Dvorachek; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Tom Nate, Edgar (Florette) (Elaine) Nate, one sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Audrey (Wayne) Wachal; her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Victor and Emma Schenian.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 522 Tower Avenue, Kellnersville. The Rev. Santiago Turiano Jr. will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with entombment at the Knollwood Mausoleum. The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of Mass at 12:00 noon.
