Mrs. Laura Dunbar Answers Summons~
Mrs. Laura Dunbar, pioneer resident of Walnut Twp., died Wed. evening of last week at the Lutheran Hospital in Omaha at the age of 74. Mrs. Dunbar had been in poor health for some time.
Since the death of her husband, Simeon Dunbar, five years ago, Mrs. Dunbar has made her home with her sons, Merle and Forrest, on the home place.
For 37 years she took an active part in the social life of the community.

Surviving are ten children: Eddis, Merle, Glenn, Harold and Forrest of Casey; Lee of Long Beach, CA; Mrs. Susie Raper of Adair; Mrs. Edith Handley of Greenfield; Mrs. Bertha Hall of Omaha; and Clarence of Muscatine. There are 19 grandchildren.

The body was brought from Omaha to Evans Funeral Home at Casey last Wed. The funeral was at the Methodist Church at Casey Sat. afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Interment was at the Oakwood Cemetery. [Adair County Free Press, 21 Jul 1938, Obituaries, 1935-37-39-43-50, at Greenfield, IA, Library]

"Simeon Dunbar and Laura Buffum were married at Galva, Illinois on Nov 27th, 1884 by P. A. Cool, Minister. The records show Simeon's father to be Jackson and Mary A. Wright his Mother."

"Simeon and his wife came to Missouri Valley, Iowa when he was 33 yeas old. They lived there until 1902 when they came to Casey, Iowa where both spent the rest of thier lives. Simeon dying Nov 2 in 1932 and Laura July 13 in 1938."


"My father and mother were parents of 13 children, 3 girls and 10 boys. They raised 10 of them to adulthood. Two babies died in infancy, one [was] the first born and one a twin of Forrest. K. Earl died at age near 4 months. Forrest's twin died Oct 20, one day old, each weighed less than 2 lbs. He was buried in a box the size of a shoe box, as told to me."

"Mother gave birth to 13 babies: the first 4 were born in Illinois; then beginning with Susie the next 6 were born in Harrison Co, Iowa near Missouri Valley; the last 3 were born in Walnut twp in Adair Co, IA."
