Larry Gene Hopkins, age 76 of Monticello passed away July 9, 2023, at his home. He was born January 19, 1947, in Newport, AR to the late Earl Hopkins and Lillie Mae Wells Hopkins.

He was a 1965 graduate of Grubbs High School. He was drafted by the United States Army, where he honorably served as a Combat Medic in the Vietnam War. He achieved the rank of Specialist 5 and earned the Army Combat Medical Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal during more than 15 months of foreign service. After returning home, he graduated from DeVry Technical Institute and began a career with Southwestern Bell that spanned four decades.

He was a 42-year member of Rose Hill Free Will Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the Communication Workers of America. He enjoyed the great outdoors, gardening, hunting, and camping.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 48 years, Joyce Causey Hopkins; one sister, Madeline Montgomery; one brother, Roger Hopkins; and one brother-in-law, Bobby Brown.
