Wayland was a United States veteran proudly serving in the United States Air Force.
Soon after Wayland graduated from the Albuquerque Police Academy in May of 1961. He was proud to serve the city of Albuquerque for 25 years as a police officer. His most proud accomplishment there was establishing the Albuquerque Police Department's Horse Mounted Unit in 1977. He retired from the Albuquerque Police Department in January 1986.
After retirement RV traveling around the country was a joy to him and his wife, Pamela Jo "P J", and they spent many years doing just that. Life was great and God was blessing immensely. They managed to visit all the lower 48 states of our great United States of America and a flight to Hawaii and an Alaskan cruise got them all in. They enjoyed a trip to Australia too.
Wayland walked with the Lord most of his life and considered it a privilege to serve the Lord Jesus Christ as a deacon and an elder. Wayland's journey here on earth ended on June 6, 2023, at 85 years of age. He now resides in that beautiful city far away on that beautiful shore known as heaven because he knew his savior personally, Jesus Christ.
Though he will be missed we know we will meet him again where there will be no more sorrows, no more burdens to bear, no more sickness, no more pain, no more parting over there. What a glorious place!
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Laurinda; and his grandson, Corey.
Wayland leaves behind his wife, Pamela Jo "P J" Baker; son, Wayland "Chip" Baker Jr. and his wife, Shawnna, along with his granddaughter, Crystal Luna and her husband, Eric, and their children; his grandson, Tommy Smith and his wife, Jackie; his sister, Opal Ragan; his brother, Charles Baker and his wife, Ruth; PJ's daughter, Bonnie Lightfoot and her husband, Clay, along with their children, Mackenzie, Micah and Braeden; and his mother-in-law, Bonnie Hinson; and his sister-in-law, Suzie Howell; many good friends, nieces, and nephews.
He loved them all. He looked forward to the day when we can all stroll across heaven together some glad day when all our troubles and heartaches are vanished away.
