Elizabeth (Barber) Pinkerton…NOT
Many family history buffs have posted assertions on ancestry.com., Archives.com., Geni.com., Wiki.com. and other like places, on this Elizabeth Pinkerton, (1829-1811), and husband, Henry Pinkerton, that have no documented basis or are flat out untrue. One such example given is a son of Elizabeth, to be Andrew Gregg Pinkerton, (1740-1814); (FAG 31598324). That means his mother would have been eleven years old at his birth, and he was not even extant in Lancaster County. There is no presented evidence that this Elizabeth was a daughter of Robert Barber, (1690-1749); 107430256), and Hannah Tidmarsh, or was married to Henry Pinkerton, yet this is posted in several places with no satisfactory documentation. Nor is this Henry Pinkerton a son of John Pinkerton, 1700-1780 of New Hampshire. Also, this Henry Pinkerton is not a documented son of David Pinkerton, found in 1738 in Pequea, Lancaster County, and first wife, Jennet Alexander, although it is not beyond the realm of possibility. Just need documentation.
Robert Barber and wife, Hannah Tidmarsh had 10 children. Their daughter, Elizabeth, b. PA 1729 died as a minor, thus was unmarried and had no issue. This is reported by Edwin Atlee Barber in his genealogy dated 1890 and also by Ellis and Evans in History of Lancaster County with Biographical Sketches of many of its Pioneers and Prominent Men, pub. Philadelphia, 1883, p. 582.
