Nellie Maxine Cavaness, 82, daughter of Franklin Craven Burnett and Ellen "Ella" Genevra Deason, was born Aug. 17, 1919, near Licking. She died Nov. 23, 2001, at Texas County Memorial Hospital.
She grew up on a farm west of Licking, MO. Maxine graduated from Licking High School in 1937. As a young lady she worked in Kirkwood, MO and Farmington, MO.
She married Alfred Cavaness March 14, 1942, at Flat River, MO. They were married 59 years and had three daughters. The Cavaness' purchased a farm east of Licking in 1951, where they continued living until their deaths.
Mrs. Cavaness was baptized in 1946 and became a member of the Bethel Primitive Baptist Church near Flat, MO.
She was preceded in death by her husband June 4, 2001; her parents; one sister, Ruth Faerber; and a brother, Gean Burnett.
Surviving are her daughters, Karen Nelson, Carole Ragain and Alta Dixon of Licking; three sisters, Ada Moore, Catherine Ogle and Frankie Lee Hadley; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services were Nov. 26 at the Boone Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Boyd Gray officiating. Burial was in the Licking Cemetery under the direction of Fox Funeral Home of Licking.
