Professional baseball player from 1949 to 1962. Played all of 1954 in the major leagues for the Cincinnati Reds. He was the first black player to appear in a game for Cincinnati. After his playing career ended, Nino was a longtime scout for the New York Mets and San Francisco Giants. He is a member of the Puerto Rico Baseball Hall of Fame.
