Lower Buffalo Presbyterian Church and Cemetery History
According to WestVirginiaGenalogy.org (History of Lower Buffalo Cemetery), the Lower Buffalo Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Brooke County, WV is one of the oldest cemeteries in the region (established in 1795 when the land was purchased for the church and cemetery). The first church building was erected in 1789. In 1822, the second church was built on a ridge a short distance from the old church location. Later a frame church was built in Independence, Washington CO, PA. The cemetery was not moved. A brick church was built at the Independence location and dedicated in 1918. A cyclone storm in 1944 toppled and shifted some grave stones in the cemetery. Gary wrote in an e-mail to me that the list is based on the 1930's DAR project for Lower Buffalo Cemetery. He also said no graves were moved when the new church building was erected in Independence, Washington CO, PA.

Hannah was born in East Nottingham, Chester County, Pennsylvania to Joseph Hudson (b 1717 Ireland, d 1807 East Nottingham, Chester County, PA) and Elizabeth Dunn (b abt 1720, d 1789). A rootsweb outline created by a member of the Street family in the lineage of the Hudson family reveals Joseph Hudson owned a loom at the time of his death and was a weaver. Another Hudson family site included a note that one of the Hudson daughters married a man named Sheppard, and both were weavers for the Revolutionary Army.

(About the Dunn Surname: From the book Irish Families, Edward MacLysaght, Irish Academic Press 1991, pages 81, 214. This book shows the earliest Dunn (O'Dunn) family originating in Ireland and the Dunn surname symbolizing "family of the hill" and "brown haired." The Dunn (O'Dunn) family crest bears an eagle, two lions, a lizard and a holly tree.)

Hannah (Hudson) Henry's father Joseph Hudson migrated to America from the region of Enniscorthy, County Wexford, Leinster Province, Ireland in 1773. Joseph and Elizabeth were Quakers. He married Elizabeth Dunn on 2-6-1736 in Griston, Yorkshire, England.

Hannah's Grandfather Timothy Hudson is the son of William Hudson, Jr. (b abt 1635 York City, Yorkshire, England, d 2-14-1713) and Mary Head (b abt 1639, d 9-11-1681) who married in 1663. After Mary (Head) Hudson passed away, William Hudson, Jr. married Susannah Morley on 5-10-1684 in Selby. Susannah died 5-14-1700. William then married Jane Waite in 1703. Jane died 12-27-1704. William Hugh Henry (b 1808, Brooke County, West Virginia, d 1875 in St. Louis, Missouri, age 67). William was a farmer. First marriage: Priscilla McKee about 1830--no other information found on Priscilla.). William married Catherine Annabelle McDowell in 1836. Catherine Annabelle (McDowell) Henry was born 10-12-1814 in Pittsburg, PA, d 12-17-1903 in Pike County, Missouri. Census records show that they lived in Bowling Green, Pike County, Missouri when William was age 51. Catherine is the daughter of David M. McDowell and Mary (Stewart) McDowell. Prairieville Methodist Cemetery is next to the Eolia Cemetery. The former town of Prairieville became Eolia.
