Genevieve Klein, age 91, gained her angel wings on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at the Pioneer House in Fargo, ND.

Genevieve (Gen) was born on September 28, 1931 to Knut & Jennie (Hjelseth) Aaland in New Rockford, ND. She attended Nordmore School, was confirmed at Kvernes Lutheran Church, and graduated high school in New Rockford in 1949. She then started her working career for the Red Owl Company in Carrington, Harvey, and Fargo. In 1951, Gen began working as a telephone operator at Northwestern Bell in Carrington. She was promoted to Chief Operator and eventually moved to Minot, ND and then to Aberdeen, SD. While in Aberdeen, she worked as a traffic assistant in the Northwestern Bell district office.

Gen married Percy Hambrick in Jamestown in December of 1952. Their son James (Jim) was born in Aberdeen in March of 1965 and they returned to Carrington later that year when they purchased the 5 Spot Bar. Gen then began her banking career at Foster County State Bank (Bremer) in 1966 where she served in the roles of teller and personal banking officer.

Percy died in May of 1993. In September of 1998 she married Kenneth (Ken) Klein at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carrington. She retired from nearly 33 years of banking in 1998. Ken passed away in February, 2009.

Gen was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She served on the church council, TLCW, and was a Sunday school secretary for many years. Gen also served on other boards and committees including Foster County Housing and Carrington Hospital and was in the Carrington Lion's Club.

Survivors include her son Jim (Naomi) of Fargo; step-sons Kevin Klein (Renee) of Carrington; Douglas Klein (Becky) of Mapleton; and Robert Klein (Guynell) of Bismarck. Also surviving Gen are her step-grandsons Kelly (Lisa) Chadron, NE; Zachariah, Maple Grove, MN; and Kaleb (Nicki) and their daughters (Hartley and Sutton) Bismarck, ND. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Virginia Hambrick.

Gen was preceded in death by her husband's Percy and Ken; brothers Carl (Delores), Arnold (Sharon), John and Norman (Phyllis); and step-grandsons Aaron, Kirk, and Cody Klein.

Gen was a wonderful mom, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend to many. She was kind, funny, and always caring. Gen will be missed by all but there is no doubt she is already enjoying her time in heaven.
