Married Diana Newman on November 7, 1943 at Temple Eitz Chayim in Brooklyn. They had two children, Steven (b. 1945) and Phyllis (b. 1950, named after Diana's grandfather Philip). Marital and business troubles led to Tommy and Diana seeking a Mexican divorce in 1966. Tommy had two further marriages, the last of which was to Gloria Oliveti in Las Vegas in 1973. This marriage lasted until his death. In the meantime, he had successfully established and run G.T.& T. Transportation (later the Piggy Back Freight Company) with Gloria's assistance.
Tommy died at Beth Israel Hospital in Newark, NJ on February 17, 1983, from heart disease, stroke, and uncontrolled diabetes. Although Jewish for his entire life, he was embalmed and given an open casket wake and funeral at Leber's Funeral Home in Union City, where he was dressed in a powder blue tuxedo with Stars of David flashing from his casket. He was interred in Gloria's family's crypt or mausoleum at Fairview Memorial Park and Mausoleum.
Interesting family note: All of Tommy's obituaries list his sister Jean and most of the brothers that outlived him; the ones that mention deceased brothers note "the late Morris and Henry." Brother Jess is never mentioned. Henry, on the other hand, is the only brother I've never been able to track down!
