Howard "Howie" Ludwig Janesich was born in Chisholm, to Ludwig and Lois (Schenck) Janesich on Jan. 16, 1945. Surrounded by his loving family, he went to be with the Lord on Nov. 13, 2010 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Howie was a member of the Chisholm Baptist Church.

He attended Chisholm schools and graduated with the class of 1963. While in high school, he excelled in the sports of football and basketball. At the age of 16, he met his wife Judy (Paradis) whom he later married on Aug. 23, 1969. He attended Hibbing Junior College from 1963 to 1966 and continued to play football during these years. Upon receiving his Associates of Arts Degree, he continued his education at Bemidji State College graduating with a degree in Elementary Education. After he graduated, he began his teaching career in Buhl and continued teaching there until the Buhl School District consolidated with Mountain Iron School District where he taught fourth and sixth grade until his retirement in 1999.

Howie lived in Chisholm almost all of his life where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, walking, swimming, riding his bike, and many other outdoor activities. He was a very social person who enjoyed having coffee with his friends at McDonalds. After his kidney transplant in 2001, a healthy lifestyle became his primary focus. He maintained a daily regimen of exercise and proper nutrition. Besides his wife and family, his major passion was his involvement with the Chisholm Bluestreak Basketball program as a full time volunteer assistant coach and the "Voice of the Bluestreaks" on the Public Access Channel.

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Judy; daughters: Jolene (Merle) Etter, and Rhea (Matthew) Reller; four granddaughters; and many treasured family and friends.

Howie loved life and was known for his quick wit. His memory will live on through the many people he touched.
