Obituary baxterfh.com:
Our beloved Father, Grandfather and great-grandfather, Grant Thueson Richey, passed away peacefully Saturday May 17, 2023 in Ashton, Idaho at the age of 91.
Grant was born September 14, 1931 in Sugar City, Idaho to Elton and Margie Bodil Thueson Richey. He spent most of his childhood growing up and working on the family farm in Ashton, originally settled by his Mother's ancestors. He enjoyed boxing and basketball in High School and graduated from North Fremont in 1950. He later attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho.
Grant served a 2 year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Atlantic States Mission spending most of his time in Virginia and North Carolina. It was there that he met the Radford family who were members of the church in Tappahannock, Virginia. After completing his mission and returning to live and work the family farm in Ashton, he learned the Radfords had completed their move to Salt Lake City, and after a period of dating, married the love of his life, Shirley Anne Radford, on December 30, 1953 and was sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple, and would spend 67 years together before Shirley passed in 2021.
As a newlywed, in April 1954 Grant was drafted to serve in the US Army. During his advanced training Shirley was able to live with him in Fort Devans, Massachusetts until he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan during the Korean War serving as a radio intercept operator. He completed his active duty in December 1955 with an Honorable Discharge and was reunited with Shirley where they lived their life in Ashton.
After 7 years of hoping and trying, they were blessed with their family beginning with Gary Lynne in 1960, Mark Grant in 1962, Eric T in 1964, still hoping for a daughter, Keith R in 1970, and Wade E in 1973.
After years of farming, then working in the timber industry, Grant opened a business in Ashton with his father-in-law, Lester Thell Radford, which he operated in various forms until fully retiring in his 70s when his vision began to worsen. Grant never complained about his loss of vision and was strong and led by example until his departure from this life. He and Shirley loved the beautiful view of the Snake River and the Tetons from the front window of their home where they raised their family. He truly missed his eternal mate in Shirley and is again with her.
Grant was a faithful member of the Church and held many callings including President of the Seventies Quorum (his favorite - missionary work).
He is survived by his sons: Gary Lynne (Jaime) of Shelley, Idaho, Mark Grant of Valier, Montana, Eric T of Carlsbad, California, Keith R (Kelly) of Ashton, nine grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife, Shirley Anne Radford Richey, youngest son, Wade E Richey, infant granddaughter, Tanya Marie Richey, and infant grandson, Kameron Wade Richey.
Grant was loved by all who met him and will be missed tremendously by his family and friends. He left a legacy of hard work, service, family and love of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on June 13, 2023, at the Ashton Stake Center with Bishop Justin Heiner officiating. The family will receive friends that morning from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the stake center prior to services. Interment will be in the Pineview Cemetery.
