Eliza Hatcher was born most likely in 1827 (possible 1828) according to the 1850 census; further research is taking place as the head stone is obliterated at the point of the last digit of the birthdate. Eliza's husband is James D. Knight, Sgt. Co. D 3rd Tenn. Cav. (USA Union). Sgt. Knight died in the steamboat Sultana disaster April 27, 1865 which happened on the Mississippi River a few miles above Memphis, TN. Tho cause of this disaster stops all the way at the highest political office which is that of Abraham Lincoln due to corruption and the desire to maintain power. The trickle down corruption was the result of greed for travel fees, greed that surpassed regard for human life.

Eliza was born 8 Dec 1827-28 (based on the 1850 census).. Her stone is laying on the ground and the mowers have been chipping away at it.

In the 1850 census of Jefferson County, TN Eliza is listed as being 23 years old, living with her parents -
Wm. Hatcher 48 bn S.C.
Elizabeth 40 bn England

The other children were
Hannah 18 bn S.C.
James M. 16 bn S.C.
Daniel 14 bn S.C.
Philip 12 bn S.C.
Nancy 9 bn S.c.
George 7 bn S.C.
Mary A. 5 bn S.C.

Thanks "Tom Er" FAG member #48259574 for the good photo of what is left of her marker. I can clearly see her husband was J.D. Knight. Too bad this is all that is left of her marker at the time you took your photo. Luckily this information will be preserved on Find A Grave.
