Martha Selena Thomsen, daughter of Will and Bertha Hunt Folz, was born on October 5, 1912, on a farm near Paton, Iowa. She grew up in the Paton area and graduated from Paton High School. After graduating, she took her normal training at the college in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
On May 7, 1936, Martha was united in marriage to Edwin Peterson in Grand Junction, Iowa. The couple lived in the Grand Junction until 1952, when they moved to a farm near Cooper, Iowa. Martha and Edwin spent their married life on the farm. After Edwin's death, in 1979, Martha moved to Jefferson.
On March 7, 1995, Martha was united in marriage to Adelbert Thomsen at the First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson. The couple spent their married life in Jefferson.
Martha was employed as a secretary and bookkeeper for several Jefferson businesses, including Slininger Funeral Home. Martha was a past member of the Cooper Methodist Church; the Rebekah Lodge and several other local clubs.
Martha Thomsen passed away February 22, 2006 at the Long Term Care Unit of the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson. She was 93 years of age. Preceding her in death were her parents; her first husband, Edwin Peterson in 1979 and one brother, Franklin Folz.
Martha's survivors include her husband, Adelbert Thomsen of Jefferson, IA; daughter, Beverly Garrity of Scranton, IA; son, Leroy Peterson of Jamaica, IA; stepdaughter, Mardel Stream of Churdan, IA; stepson, Larry Thomsen of Jefferson, IA; 4 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
