OGDENSBURG — Pauline "Pete" McLear, 90, Cedars Nursing Home, formerly of Black Lake, died Thursday at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center.
Mrs. McLear was born March 22, 1916, in Galax, Va., daughter of Frank and Maude Edwards Bobbitt, she attended school in Virginia.
She married Vincent L. McLear on Feb. 3, 1947, in Frankfort, Germany.
In her early years, she was a keypunch operator for the U.S. government in Washington, D.C., for several years before relocating to the north country, where she and her husband owned, operated and expanded McLear's Cottages campground until 1973. He died Feb. 15, 1985.
She enjoyed vacationing in Florida, playing cards, horseback riding, gardening, reading and stamp and coin collecting. She was a member of Black Lake Grange and Hammond Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Mel and Janet, Hammond; a daughter and her husband, Deborah McLear and Raymond Crofoot, Skaneateles; five stepgrandchildren, 12 stepgreat-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Five sisters, Ann Camp, Ruth Varzaly, Hazel Parsons, Mamie Hawkins and Marie Merkel, and two brothers, Walter and Eugene Bobbitt, died before her.
The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Fox-McLellan Funeral Home with the Rev. Janet Newman officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Cemetery, Black Lake. A reception at Cedar Grange, Black Lake Road, will follow.
Calling hours will be from noon to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
