Born in Xena, Clay, Illinois, he was the son of William W. and Minnie M. (Walker) King.

Entering the military on Jan. 28, 1942, at Scott Field, Illinois, he was assigned to Battery; A, 440th Armored Field Artillery Battalion, 7th Armored Division.

He sacrificed his life near Orainville,Picardy, France.

ACTIVITY DURING WWII
PRIVATE FIRST CLASS WITH 440TH ARMORED FIELD ARTILLERY BATTALION, 7TH ARMORED DIVISION. ENTERED COMBAT IN MID-AUGUST 1944. KILLED IN ACTION ON AUGUST 30, 1944 DURING THE NORTHERN FRANCE CAMPAIGN. EARNED THE PURPLE HEART MEDAL POSTHUMOUSLY AND WAS OTHERWISE ENTITLED TO THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH ONE BRONZE BATTLE STAR AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. BURIED WITH HONORS AT IOOF CEMETERY, XENIA, ILLINOIS.
